Digital Photography

Digital photography ideas and tips for the amateur photographer.

Digital Photography Resolution

Your digital camera has many resolutions. Pick the best resolution for your needs.

For digital photography, lower resolution would allow you to have more photos while higher resolution would give you better quality photos.

Low resolution is for viewing on you computer screen. Great for web pages or sending photos via email. Low resolution photos take up less space.

High resolution photos in digital photography are for image editing. You can extract a portion of your photo and enlarge it, and it still looks good.

When you print out high resolution photos, they look good. You can even enlarge your photo and print as a poster. If your digital camera resolution is high enough then your posters made from your photo will look good.

Camera shake

Ever notice your photos are blurry?

That could be due to the camera shake.

With a digital camera, you can look at the lcd screen when you compose your photo.

When you actually take the photo, you should look through the view finder for stability. To prevent shaking, hold the camera with both hands, against your face and look through the view finder. Press your arms against your body for further support, then press the button.

If possible, bring along a tripod stand for guaranteed results.

This is applicable to both regular photography and digital photography.

Digital photography composition

Divide the screen into 3. Both horizontally and vertically. Like Tic Tac Toe.

When you compose your photo, you do not need to put your subject in the center all the time. You could put your subject into any of these tic tac toe squares to compose a more interesting photo.

Auto cameras focus on the middle square.

To get around this, first, put the subject in the middle square press down the shutter as if you are taking a photo to lock in the focus, but do not release it. Move the digital camera so that the subject is in the square you want. Release the button.

Digital photography lighting

Out in broad daylight, always make sure the sun is behind you.

If you are in the shade, or it is a cloudy day, you may need to use the flash.

Experiment with the settings to get the best photos possible.

At night, we had problems with digital photography as the photos were just too dim. There was not enough light for out digital camera to take good photos. We brought our camera to the manufacturer and were given the following tips

bulletPut EV at the maximum setting
bulletSet the LCD at the maximum setting
bulletUse the flash for every photo. Change the setting to forced flash.
bulletThe distance between the subject and the camera fall within the range of the flash.

Also, your battery should be a rechargeable battery. Our digital camera needed more power than the regular batteries (even the alkaline batteries) can provide. When we switched to rechargeable batteries, the flash had more power and the night photos were much better.

Good photographs

For good photographs, you need to take many shots of the same subject from various angles.

This is what we love about digital photography,

You can take as many shots as you like without additional costs, other than the cost of the battery. If you use rechargeable batteries, then the cost of lots of additional photographs is negligible.

When you are done, you can go through your shots and keep the best photos.
